S1 Artspace is pleased to announce that Alicia Paz has been awarded the S1 | Chatsworth Residency. Alicia will be based at S1 Artspace throughout the summer undertaking research in Sheffield and Chatsworth to inform a new series of ambitious works to be presented at S1 in 2023.
Alicia Paz is a painter and sculptor based in London who studied MA Painting at Royal College of Art in 2008 and Postgraduate Diploma Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London in 2000.
Born and raised in Mexico, before living in the US, France and now the UK, Alicia’s work is informed by her personal experience and offers a reflection on transcultural representation and identity, particularly that of women. Through her paintings and sculptures, Paz explores cultural hybrids, representations of family, and the complexities of kinship and lineage in a globalised world. Her work often incorporates elements from the applied and decorative arts as a tool for interweaving narratives and exploring notions of displacement, identity and illusion.
I am incredibly honoured to be embarking on this residency and exhibition project at S1 Artspace in Sheffield and thrilled to have the chance to research the collections at Chatsworth House Trust in Derbyshire. – Alicia Paz

The Centre for Print Research (CFPR) is a distinctive centre of research excellence based at the University of the West of England. It is a unique, multidisciplinary group that combines knowledge and skills across traditional and digital techniques to reflect, innovate and find creative solutions for the future of print. Established in 1998, the CFPR has developed partnerships with world-leading academic institutions and an outstanding record in working with collaborators across a wide range of sectors, including fine art, design, material science and engineering.
It has recently launched an Artist in Residence Programme and collaborates with international artists to create limited edition prints and multiples by merging traditional printmaking techniques and materials with new technologies such as robotics, 3D printing and laser cutting.
