Philip Lee
Philip Lee is a multidisciplinary artist working in the realms of portraiture through painting, photography, installation, and research. His work currently explores alternative representations of the self, in the context of emotion, architecture, and environmental psychology.
Lee is interested in capturing all aspects of the self, both internal and external, such as emotional experience, behaviour, and human attachment to place and objects.
Interest in alternative forms of portraiture stemmed from Lee’s Part II Architectural study where he researched the relationship between portraiture and architecture, and the emotional connections people have with the environments they live within. This body of research continues to influence his practice today as he continues to capture emotional experience, and explore emotional communication.
Biography

Lee became a S1 Artspace studio holder in October 2019 and has an educational background in Architecture, having completed both his Architectural Part I and Part II at Northumbria University, Newcastle (2014, 2018).
During this time he has delivered public talks as part of ‘Future Thinkers on Architecture’ (2017) and exhibited his architectural design work and thesis as part of ‘Reveal’ (2014, 2018) and ‘The Great Exhibition of the North’ (2018).
Since leaving university he has gone on to win the People’s Choice Award at ‘The Fronteer Open’ (2018), and continued to exhibit in multiple shows across Sheffield, and the UK. Recent exhibitions have included ‘Brought To Birth’ at 35 Chapel Walk (2019), ‘Symbol’ at Cupola Contemporary Art (2019), and ‘Chameleon’ at Surface Gallery (2019).
